Farmer Climate Action Funding

Funding is available for selected Northeast and West Central Minnesota counties and Tribal entities to support climate mitigation and adaptation, and regenerative on-farm initiatives and projects. Small grants will be awarded through a competitive process for projects identified and led by underserved farmers that enhance their climate resiliency. Apply by February 14, 2025.

Priorities for projects include, but are not limited to:

  • Implementing climate-friendly production practices such as perennials, composting, organic no-till, agroforestry, and wildlife corridors.
  • Replacing fossil fuel use through animal and electric power or clean energy.
  • Sequestering carbon by incorporating healthy soil practices such as crop rotation, biochar, legume cover cropping, and building organic matter.
  • Building financial, social and ecological resilience on the farm while providing healthy and life-giving food and products to the community.

 

Priority will be given to shovel-ready projects that can be completed by December 31, 2025. The application deadline is February 14, 2025, with awards announced in early March.

 

Qualifying counties and Tribal authorities:

 

Northeast: Grand Portage Band of Lake Superior Chippewa, Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa, Bois Forte Band of Chippewa, Koochiching, Itasca, Aitkin, Pine, Carlton, St. Louis, Lake and Cook counties

 

West Central: White Earth Nation and Upper Sioux Community and Ottertail, Becker, Grant, Douglas, Stevens, Pope, Big Stone, Swift, Lac qui Parle, Chippewa, Yellow Medicine counties
