Farmer Cohort Coordinator Position with Sharing Our Roots

The Farmer Cohort Coordinator plays a key role in advancing Sharing Our Roots’ mission to build equitable access to land and markets. In this position, you will lead SOR’s Farmer Cohort Program, supporting farmers’ success through mentorship, training, and connection to markets and resources. You’ll help create a thriving community of farmers who share tools, land, and learning — and ensure that our farm systems and partnerships run smoothly. FLSA Status: Exempt

Hours: FTE 1; 40 hrs/week

Salary: $48,000-$52,000 annually

Location: Hybrid role: 2-3 days/week on site (with seasonal variation)

Reports to: Farm Manager


PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Include but are not limited to the following:

Farmer Support & Cohort Facilitation

● Serve as the primary point of contact for Farmer Cohort members, sharing weekly updates about field prep, training, and resources.

● Conduct regular check-ins and surveys during the growing and winter seasons to assess progress and inform annual planning.

● Support and uphold standard operating procedures, organic certification standards, and food safety plans in coordination with the Farm Manager.

● Cultivate healthy, trusting relationships among farmers through facilitated check-ins, gatherings, and ongoing communication.


Community Outreach & Education


● Build and maintain partnerships with community and educational organizations to expand awareness of equitable land-access models.

● Collaborate with staff and partners to host workshops, tours, and community events that deepen public connection to the land.

Represent SOR at regional gatherings and conferences as capacity allows.

Market Access & Partner Relations

● Identify new market opportunities aligned with SOR’s mission and the farmers’ production capacity.

● Gather and share feedback from farmers and buyers to improve aggregation, delivery, and invoicing systems.

● Ensure language accessibility for all trainings and events through translation and interpretation services.

● Coordinate core trainings (food safety, pest management, soil health, organic certification, etc.) with institutional partners.

● Organize market-readiness trainings and learning opportunities with external educators.

● Maintain regular communication with market partners to align logistics, expectations, and delivery systems.

● Support farmers in sustaining strong market relationships through guidance on communication, quality, and record keeping.


Administration & Coordination

● Purchase supplies for the cohort and farm within budget.

● Respond promptly to communications from farmers, partners, and community members.

● Manage the application and selection process for new cohort farmers, in collaboration with the Farm Manager.

● Identify funding needs and opportunities and share program data to support grants and reports with the Executive Director and development staff.

● Co-supervise interns and work-study students alongside the Farm Manager and Natural Lands Manager as appropriate.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

Required

● Experience in food systems and at least one of the following: market access, farmer education, or program coordination.

● Familiarity with food justice or sustainable agriculture.

Demonstrated ability to work effectively across cultures, including with immigrant and BIPOC communities.

● Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.

Strong organizational and follow-through skills; ability to manage multiple priorities.

● Ability to work regularly onsite at the SOR Farm; valid driver’s license.

● Reliable internet and workspace for remote days.
Preferred

● Bilingual/bicultural (e.g., Spanish, Somali, or Swahili) strongly preferred.

● Experience managing shared systems (equipment, scheduling, or cooperative use).

● Technical farming experience or familiarity with production-scale operations. Understanding of cooperative or shared leadership structures.


COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:

● Salary: $48,000–$52,000 annually (DOE)

● Paid Time Off: 15 days PTO + bereavement leave + paid federal holidays
