Extension Small Farm Startup School

Local Extension Educators in Wright, McLeod, and Meeker Counties will be hosting the Small Farm Startup School this fall in Dassel, MN at the Dassel History Center and Ergot Museum. This is an in-person, seven week course on Wednesday nights of September 11, 18 and October 2, 9, 16, 23, and 30. Class begins at 6 p.m. and ends at 8 p.m. with dinner available at 5:30 p.m.. There will also be two Saturdays where the class will get to tour local area farms. Those Saturdays are 9/28 and 10/19.

The class is for small-scale landowners or renters who are interested in learning how to use their land for agricultural purposes. The goal of this course is to help new and beginning farmers on their journey to becoming successful and participants will work through and develop their own business plan they could take to a loan office.

The registration fee is $250 for up to two people per farm within Wright, McLeod, or Meeker County. For participants owning or renting land outside of these counties, registration is $350 for up to two people. Registration cost includes participation for two people from the same farm, dinner for all seven weeks, handouts and publications, and farm tours.
