This 21-acre property in Verona (just outside of Madison) is going to be protected and sold for $300K (it was appraised at $1M). This is a Buy-Protect-Sell transition project between Renewing the Countryside, American Farmland Trust, and Groundswell. It is raw land with approximately 4-5 acres in pine with the rest in previous row crop fields and pasture.
Strong preference for candidates who:
1) Are working with a Navigator
2) Have a minimum of 2-3 years of experience operating their farm business and
3) Are financially positioned to make this purchase now
The goal of this project is to purchase the land, protect it with an Agricultural Conservation Easement (ACE), and promptly resell it to the new farmer at the discounted price. AFT will not be holding the land for a later sale, however, the timeline for resale is flexible to accommodate any complexities for the incoming farmer while securing financing.
