Are you concerned about mental health in your community? We invite you to join a state-wide network dedicated to promoting mental and emotional well-being. The University of Minnesota Extension, in collaboration with the Minnesota Department of Agriculture and the Minnesota Department of Health, are offering in-person training to become a certified Changing Our Mental and Emotional Trajectory (COMET) facilitator.
People don’t have to be a mental health professional to support friends, neighbors, and colleagues in times of need – but they may not know how. As a COMET facilitator, you’ll lead workshops that teach how to reach out in a meaningful, respectful, and supportive way to friends, coworkers, or acquaintances who seem to be struggling somewhere on the continuum between “wellness” and “mental health crisis.”
As a COMET facilitator, you’ll help people learn a simple way to start supportive and potentially emotional conversations that help someone who’s struggling move away from crisis and back toward wellness.

Why Become a COMET Facilitator?
Mental wellness is a critical need in our communities. By becoming a certified COMET Facilitator, you will be equipped to:
- Deliver High-Value Workshops: Gain the essential skills and materials to deliver impactful COMET workshops in-person and online.
- Join a Professional Network: Become a member of Minnesota's COMET facilitator network, connecting you with peers and resources across the state.
- Receive Certification: Upon successful completion, you will receive a Certificate of Completion for your professional development records or for use in obtaining CEUs.
Training Details
- Dates/Locations: Choose one of the four sessions listed below
- Time: 10:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. (includes a light lunch)
- Cost: $150.00 per person
- Capacity: Each location is limited to 30 participants

Important Preparation
We strongly encourage you to first attend a free 2-hour COMET workshop before participating in the facilitator training. This will give you firsthand experience with the material you will be teaching. You can find scheduled sessions listed here or search online for COMET workshops offered by groups in other states.

Certified Facilitator COMET Expectations:
- Complete the COMET facilitator training
- Commit to delivering COMET training in your community
- Deliver COMET training in pairs with a co-facilitator
- Participate in the COMET statewide facilitator network
- List your name in a COMET facilitator directory
