Call for Student Papers: Agriculture, Food, and Human Values Society

The Agriculture, Food, and Human Values Society (AFHVS) invites submissions for the 2026 AFHVS Student Research Paper Awards. The papers can come from students in a wide range of disciplinary backgrounds and should be on some topic of relevance to the Society’s focus. Submit papers by February 6, 2026.

What does the award include?

Winners are expected to present their paper at the AFHVS conference within two years of winning the award, and a space in a panel is guaranteed. The winning graduate student (or one of the winning students) is also expected to serve on the AFHVS Student Paper Awards Committee the following year.

Winners will be invited/expected to present their paper at the 2026 or 2027 conference in-person (preferable) or virtually (when offered), co-hosted by: 

  • The Association for the Study of Food and Society (ASFS) 

  • Agriculture Food & Human Values Society (AFHVS) 

Each award also includes: 

  • Conference registration reimbursement.

  • A ticket to the evening program/banquet event at the conference.

  • Formal recognition at the conference and on the AFHVS website as an award winner.

  • A two-year AFHVS membership.

  • $300 cash prize 

  • Based on the recommendation of the Student Research Paper Award Committee, the winning graduate student paper may be forwarded to the journal Agriculture and Human Values for review for possible publication. 


Submission: Via Google Form by 5:00 p.m. Pacific Time on Friday, February 6, 2026.
